Joanne Domka “I was drawn to photography as a way to explore the world around us and find magic in everyday life.”

Artist and photographer Joanne Domka lives in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. Originally from Detroit, Michigan where she attended Wayne State University and received and BFA in art and photography and a graduate certificate in Archival administration. She works in both b&w and color photography, as well as specializing in hand-colored prints.

She began her career as an freelance editorial and fine art photographer, shooting assignments for newspapers and magazines such as The Detroit News, The Detroit Free Press, Detroit Monthly Magazine, and The Washington Post. Joanne has also worked as a photo archivist at the General Motors Media Archives, fulfilling research requests and helping to preserve some of the over 5 million photos, films, and documents within the collection. In addition to her photography, Joanne works and studies in website development, graphic design, and digital media.

Joanne Domka has developed a technique for hand-coloring b&w photos with colored pencils and oils, which have been exhibited and published nationally. Joanne Domka’s hand-colored photographic artwork of classic automobiles and vintage signage has been featured in top magazines such as Popular Photography, Peterson’s Photographic, Photo Techniques, and Automobile Magazine. Her photos have been exhibited nationally, including the prestigious Concours d’Elegance classic automotive show held annually in Detroit.
